It’s Time to Guard Yourself NOW!!!

Our homes aren’t safe and clean if the air inside is polluted with chemicals from
household cleaners. Follow these simple tips to protect your family’s health while you
clean your home.

1. Less is More
Dilute your cleaning supplies according to instructions and use only what’s
needed to get the job done.
2. Open the Window
Clean with windows and doors open so you don’t trap air pollution inside your
home.
3. Use Gloves and Other Precautions
Cleaning chemicals may harm or penetrate skin and eyes – check warning
labels.
4. Keep Kids Away
Children are more vulnerable to toxic chemicals. If they like to help, let them
clean with soap and water, not toxic cleaners.
5. Avoid “Antibacterial”
If your family is generally healthy, there’s no need to use potentially toxic “antibacterial”
products, according to the American Medical Association. Wash your
hands with plain soap and water.
6. Never Mix Bleach with Ammonia, Vinegar, or Other Acids
These combinations can produce deadly gases.
7. Don’t Be Fooled by Labels – Buy Certified Green Products
Label claims aren’t always true. Cleaning supplies certified by Green Seal or
EcoLogo meet green standards.
8. Try Natural Alternatives
Experiment with non-toxic options like vinegar and baking soda.
9. Take Care with Pine and Citrus Oil Cleaners
Avoid using these cleaners especially on smoggy days, when the ingredients
can react with ozone to produce cancer-causing formaldehyde.
10. Skip the Biggest Hazards
Avoid air fresheners, use a baking soda and water paste to clean the oven and
tackle toilet stains, and use a mechanical snake to unclog the drain.

Social Media – Potentialy Someone is Watching You

Security Implications of Social Media

We usually focus on the positives that social media can bring about, but right now we are going to hop to the other side of the fence for a bit and discuss some of the dangers that can arise via social media. Not too long ago, I was called out at work for something that was posted on my Facebook. It wasn’t anything offensive, just one of my friends happened to go on my profile while I was logged in, and put an unsettling status about me, which made my friends think that I put it about myself. Sure, it was all fun and games to my social circle, but when things like this get brought up at your place of business, it makes one think about the effects that social media can have on one’s life, safety, security, perceived character, and well being.

Sure, social media is a great way to bring traffic to your site, brand your products and services, generate leads, and so on; but how safe is social media? Social media encompasses a wide spectrum, two out of three Americans use social technology, social sites are now the 4th most active online activity – ahead of email, and it accounts for about 10% of all time spent on the internet. Being that so many people in the world are involved in social media, what are some of the potential implications?

1. National Security: Currently the US Marines have banned social media for the next year. According to the Marines:
1. THESE INTERNET SITES IN GENERAL ARE A PROVEN HAVEN FOR MALICIOUS ACTORS AND CONTENT AND ARE PARTICULARLY HIGH RISK DUE TO INFORMATION EXPOSURE, USER GENERATED CONTENT AND TARGETING BY ADVERSARIES. THE VERY NATURE OF SNS CREATES A LARGER ATTACK AND EXPLOITATION WINDOW, EXPOSES UNNECESSARY INFORMATION TO ADVERSARIES AND PROVIDES AN EASY CONDUIT FOR INFORMATION LEAKAGE THAT PUTS OPSEC, COMSEC, PERSONNEL AND THE MCEN AT AN ELEVATED RISK OF COMPROMISE. EXAMPLES OF INTERNET SNS SITES INCLUDE FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, AND TWITTER.

Imagine if there was a marine tweeting something like hitting golf balls into the Adriatic sea. Not only does he give away his location, but just the mere fact that he tweeted something puts his whole company under potential attack. Anyone can go online and track where anyone tweeted last from in the world.

2. Publicly Traded Companies: Twitter grew 1382% from January to February in 2009. Let’s face it, the world is on Twitter. If I was part of a publicly traded company I would be wary about what my employees are tweeting. Imagine the implications of an employee tweeting out of excitement after a new purchase, endeavor, or business acquisition. This can be considered an insider tip, and if one sees this tweet and purchases a good amount of stocks, SEC insider-trading implications may occur.

3. Personal Safety, Security, and Information: Social media has jeopardized the life of many individuals, not so much life and death, but prosperity and well being. You can potentially lose your job over comments said over Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. You can be caught cheating on your spouse through tagged and/or posted pictures, statuses, and other comments. Businesses now use social media to screen potential employees. Insurance companies also view social media to see what kind of lifestyles people are living before insuring them. There is a lot of personal information exposed on social media; you can be unfairly judged based on postings on social media that may or may not be taken out of context.

My message: Be careful and be conscientious and understand that everything you do online is potentially reviewed in the future. Big Brother? Maybe, but no one is forcing you to use the social media. Just be smart, enjoy the benefits of social media but be acutely aware of the consequences of perceived poor behavior or judgment.

Personal Safety – Do you take it for Granted

Do you take your safety for granted? It can be easy to push aside fears and ignore the possibility that someone might try to attack you, or someone we love. Many of us might think that we will be living in fear if we consider “what could happen.” And of course, no one wants to live in constant fear and look over their shoulder. But should we think nothing bad will ever happen to us? Maybe there is a better solution: be educated and prepared. Don’t live in fear, but have precautions in place.
On the other hand, you might be reading this because you, or someone close to you, was attacked or assaulted in some way. Maybe you feel unsafe because you watched the news or read a story in the paper. Any number of “wake up calls” might have you wanting to increase your personal safety. No matter why you want to be safer, this report will help.
Knowing how to be safe and staying safe is simply a matter of developing routines that will put your fears at ease. Personal safety should be a part of your everyday life. It doesn’t have to be scary. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. But it does have to be a part of your life in order to keep you safe all the time.

Your Safety While Driving with Sirius Radio

While driving down the FDR the other day I found that the classic rewind station on Sirius Radio, Wow I was taken back in time to my high school days in Francis Lewis, I got so caught up in the music I didn’t realize I passed my exit at 71 St.

I smiled at how I could have so much fun thinking of a calm time in my life. But if you have ever been on the FDR you would know that it not fun when you miss the exit. Okay the music is great so I will have to drive to the next exit which by this time I was at the 53 St exit so I got off and would backtrack, When I got off the exit their were three guys with metal detectors checking all around the cars. Your first thought is what do they know that I don’t and an alarm went off in my head what building is this that they need to check my car.

Scams – To Good To Be True

Scams Are they to good to be true? The sad part is that we would all like to think we won won 100,000 in the lottery or that our aunt left us a Fortune. We all remember Jackie Gleason and his fortune out to be a bird called Fortune.

Believe it or not, most of us, even those of us who pay attention to safety and security for a living often lapse into a trusting, non-thinking way of reaction. We just have a lull and don’t stop to think about what we’re doing. The military, the police, even sports teams all know that the best way to ensure someone doesn’t “forget” what to do under stress or in a certain situation is to repeatedly train for any possible situation.

While you might not be able to train for every potential safety situation, the more you learn about safety tips, even tips you’ve heard before, the more likely you are to remember them when you need to. That said, here they are again – tips you may know, tips that are just common sense and tips you may not have known.

No matter how convincing they may be, trust me – no stranger in Nigeria or anywhere else is going to share
a fortune with you, someone they have only addressed as “friend” in their confidential email to you. If it
sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Every year thousands of people are scammed out of their life savings by total strangers who somehow manage to convince them that a total stranger is willing to part with thousands of dollars for no really compelling reason. If you are approached, called, emailed or receive a letter from someone who is willing to promise you something for nothing, remember you are most likely to be the one who ends up with the nothing while they ride off into the sunset not only with something, but most likely with a lot of your somethings! Crooks know – there’s a sucker born every minute. Don’t let it be you.

Is Any Place Really Safe Any More

Who really knows if anyplace is safe anymore. The people who live right next door who have been in your life for the last 20 years turn out to be on the front page of the newspaper, the first thing you think of is that you have had dinner with him or our kids played together every day for all these years and I never knew he could do this.
You think he would be the last person on the block that I would guess would hurt someone. And then it happens, Their is really no such thing as guaranteed safety.

So what can you do to protect your family. Common sense, contrary to what people believe, is not common. Common sense is that awareness or
knowledge we gain over time by being aware of our senses and by taking action to correct something that is
painful or not in our best interest. The trick is, we have to become aware something is not in our best interest. Never let your guard down It could save your life.
