Gun or Taser What is your Personal Safety Worth? It’s a question that many women will ask themselves but may never take action until something happens.

It’s time to Explore your option NOW, Before you become the next victim

Woman Protecting herself

Know how to Protect yourself before an Attack

The first defensive weapon that comes to mind when someone says “safety” is a
gun. It’s a good choice for some, but there are other alternatives. The purpose of
self-defense is not to kill, cripple or disable your assailant. The purpose of self-defense
is to use a means, any means that will allow you to escape your attacker
and get to safety.

As you will see on the video this man who is teaching Kelly the facts of both a Gun and a Taser. Both items need some kind of training to use. We would be very foolish to think you could just take a gun and shoot at your target on the first try.

Social Media – Potentialy Someone is Watching You

Security Implications of Social Media

We usually focus on the positives that social media can bring about, but right now we are going to hop to the other side of the fence for a bit and discuss some of the dangers that can arise via social media. Not too long ago, I was called out at work for something that was posted on my Facebook. It wasn’t anything offensive, just one of my friends happened to go on my profile while I was logged in, and put an unsettling status about me, which made my friends think that I put it about myself. Sure, it was all fun and games to my social circle, but when things like this get brought up at your place of business, it makes one think about the effects that social media can have on one’s life, safety, security, perceived character, and well being.

Sure, social media is a great way to bring traffic to your site, brand your products and services, generate leads, and so on; but how safe is social media? Social media encompasses a wide spectrum, two out of three Americans use social technology, social sites are now the 4th most active online activity – ahead of email, and it accounts for about 10% of all time spent on the internet. Being that so many people in the world are involved in social media, what are some of the potential implications?

1. National Security: Currently the US Marines have banned social media for the next year. According to the Marines:
1. THESE INTERNET SITES IN GENERAL ARE A PROVEN HAVEN FOR MALICIOUS ACTORS AND CONTENT AND ARE PARTICULARLY HIGH RISK DUE TO INFORMATION EXPOSURE, USER GENERATED CONTENT AND TARGETING BY ADVERSARIES. THE VERY NATURE OF SNS CREATES A LARGER ATTACK AND EXPLOITATION WINDOW, EXPOSES UNNECESSARY INFORMATION TO ADVERSARIES AND PROVIDES AN EASY CONDUIT FOR INFORMATION LEAKAGE THAT PUTS OPSEC, COMSEC, PERSONNEL AND THE MCEN AT AN ELEVATED RISK OF COMPROMISE. EXAMPLES OF INTERNET SNS SITES INCLUDE FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, AND TWITTER.

Imagine if there was a marine tweeting something like hitting golf balls into the Adriatic sea. Not only does he give away his location, but just the mere fact that he tweeted something puts his whole company under potential attack. Anyone can go online and track where anyone tweeted last from in the world.

2. Publicly Traded Companies: Twitter grew 1382% from January to February in 2009. Let’s face it, the world is on Twitter. If I was part of a publicly traded company I would be wary about what my employees are tweeting. Imagine the implications of an employee tweeting out of excitement after a new purchase, endeavor, or business acquisition. This can be considered an insider tip, and if one sees this tweet and purchases a good amount of stocks, SEC insider-trading implications may occur.

3. Personal Safety, Security, and Information: Social media has jeopardized the life of many individuals, not so much life and death, but prosperity and well being. You can potentially lose your job over comments said over Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. You can be caught cheating on your spouse through tagged and/or posted pictures, statuses, and other comments. Businesses now use social media to screen potential employees. Insurance companies also view social media to see what kind of lifestyles people are living before insuring them. There is a lot of personal information exposed on social media; you can be unfairly judged based on postings on social media that may or may not be taken out of context.

My message: Be careful and be conscientious and understand that everything you do online is potentially reviewed in the future. Big Brother? Maybe, but no one is forcing you to use the social media. Just be smart, enjoy the benefits of social media but be acutely aware of the consequences of perceived poor behavior or judgment.

Personal Safety Make it Part of you Everyday Life

Do you take your Personal Safety for granted?

It can be easy to push aside fears and ignore the possibility that someone might try to attack you, or someone we love. Many of us might think that we will be living in fear if we consider “what could happen.” And of course, no one wants to live in constant fear and look over their shoulder. But should we think nothing bad will ever happen to us? Maybe there is a better solution: be educated and prepared. Don’t live in fear, but have precautions in place.

On the other hand, you might be reading this because you, or someone close to you, was attacked or assaulted in some way. Maybe you feel unsafe because you watched the news or read a story in the paper. Any number of “wake up calls” might have you wanting to increase your personal safety. No matter why you want to be safer, this report will help.

Knowing how to be safe and staying safe is simply a matter of developing routines that will put your fears at ease. Personal safety should be a part of your everyday life. It doesn’t have to be scary. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. But it does have to be a part of your life in order to keep you safe all the time.

Personal Safety – Make it Part of who you are

Personal Safety is very much a national problem. It’s not just fear mongering by
the media or by those businesses that want to sell security alarms. Knowing how
to be safe and stay safe is as important as knowing how to do your job well or how to
drive or use a telephone. Personal safety is or should be a part of your everyday life. It
doesn’t have to be scary. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. But it does have to be a part of
your life.

Know that you are not alone in your concerns or even your fears. But know too that
simply knowing the basics about staying safe can make a big difference in how you stay
safe and how you secure you feel. This short report can get you started, but don’t limit
yourself to just these safety tips. Share them with other women, talk about your
experiences and share what you know. Not only will you learn by sharing, so will other
women. With more women more active, running, jogging, biking and being outside at
early and late times of the day, there’s more exposure to the possibility of assault or
attack.

Home Safety for Seniors to Ensure Comfort & Personal Safety in your home.

Are you a Senior Citizen that wants to secure your home and personal safety?

Many older Americans are taking steps to help secure your personal safety and security, especially as they balance the desire for independence with the challenges of today world.

Good news is that the crime rate for seniors has declined although it may not seam that way. The department of Justice has reported that the Violent Crime is now lower then it has been in the last decade, or should we say that before the economy changed. Naturally the reports will change and we won’t know until next year what the report say. My take on this is to read your local paper to find out.

Many precaution should be taken on an everyday basis to reduce the risk and make you fell safe in your own home.

*Check door locks.
*Replace any nonfunctioning or poorly installed locks.
*Make sure that your garage is equipped with a sturdy lock as well.

*Install exterior lighting. A well-lit home can deter nighttime break-ins.

*Make your house look occupied. When you’re out of town, use light timers to mimic your normal routine.
*Cancel newspaper and mail delivery, so that papers don’t pile up outside.

*Know your neighbors.
*Keep neighbors’ phone numbers near your phone with emergency information.
*Inform neighbors of your travel plans and any scheduled deliveries or home maintenance appointments.

*Install an alarm.
*Security companies offer a wide range of alarm options, including systems that provide medical alert services.

Stay safe on the street.
*Always walk in well-lit areas.
*Ask a friend to accompany you or tell someone where you’re going.

Neighborhood involvement is another key to deterring crime on a street or block. Seniors who want to protect their homes and help raise awareness in the community can join neighborhood watch groups.

On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach which is a very large group of golfers. Most retired and living the good life. South Carolina has the highest crime in the United States. One of the perks is that most of the homes are in a gated community. While most places have security on the grounds you also have your homeowners that look out for everyone. The bottom line is living in a 55 and older community most have the time to keep an eye out for the whole neighborhood.

Definition of Self Defense

Self-defense (or self-defence — see spelling differences) is the act of defending oneself, one’s property or the well-being of another from physical harm.[1] The use of self-defense as a legal justification for violence is available in many jurisdictions, but the interpretation varies widely.

The whole idea of Self Defense is to protect yourself and get out of a dangerous situation. For many it can mean the use of Pepper Spray, Personal Alarms. One thing to know is that what ever you choose to use you are aware of how to use it.

Personal Safety – Diamond Head Snake in your Home Instead of Security System

When a New Britain man drove his car and crashed he told police that the two snakes he had in his pocket slithered under the gas pedal. The police found no snakes in his car. But hey its a good one anyway.

Just the word Slither makes me a little scared.

Which brings me to a phone call I received from my brother who is on vacation in Arizona this week. While on a hiking trail with his wife and two daughters, he heard a sound, Yes you know where I am going with this it was a Rattlesnake and shaking with all the sounds of a rattler.

Being a real New Yorker who are we to know the sounds of death at our feet from a Rattlesnake, we did learn in school that any snake with a diamond head is not a pet we want in our home, But lets look at your Personal safety and who who would ever want to come into your home if they knew you had snakes, most New Yorkers are even afraid of garden snakes. My neighbor would not come out of her home the day a garden snake was in the driveway, Yes she called in sick that day.

A great way to protect your home while your away is to put fake snakes all over with a sign that says “Beware of Snakes“.Forget the dogs fake snakes will do the trick hang one in the doorway or by the kitchen sink. I would almost guarantee if someone did brake into your home they would leave as fast as they came in.
