facebook page photo 150x132 Question Why is everyone else responsible for a womans personal safety?

Donna Biasi

You hear these comments all the time. How a woman should be able to run naked out on the streets without being harassed, attacked or raped. Ideally the world would be a peaceful place free of violence but everyone who is over the age of 6 knows this will never happen. If a woman places herself in a vulnerable situation by dressing provocatively, getting drunk and wandering alone at night she is inviting trouble.

On some level she might even deserve some of the blame due to her negligence. Why is telling women helpful advice about keeping safe considered as victim blaming? Why is everyone else responsible for woman’s personal safety?

I fail to see what this has to do with Marriage & Divorce, but PEOPLE are responsible for their own behavior…that means the person doing the harrassing or attacking of someone is responsible for their behavior, regardless of how the person they are harrassing/attacking is dressed, the time of day, or the location….

Yes, if anyone goes out in public naked or dressed scantily or provocatively, they’d be stupid not to expect attention…however, their poor choice in wardrobe doesn’t give anyone the right to do them harm or harrass them…

A person who puts themselves at risk may be foolish for doing so, but they still don’t "deserve" to be harmed (although some people say ‘they get what they deserved’)…

If you’re going to advise women on how to stay safe, don’t forget to advise their potential attackers on appropriate behavior…plenty of women don’t place themselves in what one would think to be a potentially harmful situation, but they end up harmed anyway (and it happens to men also)…what do you say to these people who weren’t dressed inappropriately, weren’t in a typically unsafe part of town, and weren’t out at night???

No one ever deserves to be Harmed EVER

One Would you say the reason that they are dressing this way is for the attention.

I so agree everyone man or women are responsible for their own safety, potentially harmful situation sometimes they don’t think of the consequence of their actions, leaving others to be in harms way.
