Recalls Risk For Tag Sales, Yard Sales and Basement Sales – Consumer Product Safety
While we all love a really great Garage sale. you need to pay attention to items you are looking to buy. Mostly products that have been recalled by the government. Many times you don’t even know what the products are but hey it looks like a great buy your child will love to play with.
The Government now plans to fine the people that sell these items at their sale. You know they are not going around to every state and town to check it out, but would you feel bad if you sold someone a product that could cause them harm. I guess we are going to go with the consumer who will notify the government who will check it out when someone calls.
Does this mean we are going back to the honor system. Honor System
I was at a garage sale yesterday and the sign said “Please put the money in the box” I am thinking that how nice is this the honor system, Can that be I watched people come and go and everyone placed something in the box reminds me of church a little donation. What do they know that I don’t. Turns out that I bought a photo frame for twenty five cents, No change Yes I gave a seventy five cent donation. Boy did I feel great. and all because I thought the government was watching, Now they will know I have to pay tax on the items I sell. That is another story.
Their is a reason that the government has stepped in and recalled a product. The main reason is because of the safety issue. We all remember the toys from China a couple of years ago.
My mother work for the Consumer Safety Recall in NY several years back and you would be surprised to see how many products that they recall. They judged it by the amount of times someone would get hurt by a product.
Consumer Product Safety Commission is in charge of protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products.
Deaths, injuries and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $700 billion annually.
Lead paint is dangerous to a child health both physically and mentally. Lead is a poisonous heavy metal that is hazard to your health. Please note it would take a significant amounts of paint swallowed before any damage happens.
As a parent it is our job to know this information. Many people don’t even know until it is too late.
So before you head out for a day of Yard sales. Go to the Consumer Safety Recall and find out the products that they have recalled print it out.
